Is Vestigee a good alternative to Ancestry?

It is a good alternative if your problem is reading and using records rather than finding more of them. Vestigee transcribes and translates handwritten documents, processes material nobody has indexed — including your own family papers — and includes photo restoration and tree building in one subscription. Ancestry's licensed catalogue and DNA pool remain larger, particularly for North America.

Can I transfer my Ancestry tree?

Yes. Export a GEDCOM from Ancestry and import it into Vestigee: people, dates, places, relationships and notes come across, and your tree then drives record suggestions instead of being retyped. Download attached media separately, since media handling differs between platforms.

Do I have to cancel Ancestry?

No, and many researchers keep both while they are actively mining a collection. Records are exclusive, so overlapping access covers more of the paper trail; cancel whichever subscription you stop opening.

Which has more records?

Ancestry's licensed collection is broader overall, especially for the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia. Vestigee indexes over 40 billion records with its deepest coverage in France and Western Europe, and additionally processes any document you upload — which is where the practical difference usually shows up.

If DNA matching is central to your research, Ancestry's pool is one of the largest available and that is a real advantage. Download your raw data whichever platform you test with, so you can transfer it rather than paying to test twice.

Which is better for reading old handwriting?

That is what Vestigee was built for: transcription of handwritten registers, translation of Latin, German, Polish and other entries, and extraction of names, dates and places attached to the right person with the source kept.

Your tree is private to your account unless you invite someone, uploads are encrypted, nothing is sold, and you can export a GEDCOM and delete your data at any time. Check the equivalent policies on any platform before uploading family documents.

Compare what is included rather than headline prices, because add-ons decide the real cost: record access, DNA features, newspapers, photo tools and printing are sometimes billed separately. Current prices for your country are on the pricing page.
